Who can buy hearing aids online in Portugal?

The following groups of patients could buy hearing aids online with a high degree of confidence:

1. You are an experienced user of hearing aids and just lost your hearing aids, so you are in the market for the best price of the latest models to replace the ones you lost.

2. You are an experienced user of hearing aids, and your hearing aids are very old or just stopped working, so you are looking to buy a pair of new hearing aids online.

3. You have been an experienced user of hearing aids for years but wish to upgrade your hearing aids to a rechargeable one and be able to stream music and phone calls directly to your hearing aids.

4. You want to buy a pair of hearing aids for one of your parents or relatives in Portugal who has access to a local audiologist to fit and support them.

Buying hearing aids online may not be a good idea if:​

1. You do not have access to a local audiologist in Portugal to obtain a full hearing test and examination. A full in-clinic or home visit examination of your hearing would rule out the chance of earwax blockage or any referable case (to GP/ENT). You must have a recent (less than 6 months old) hearing test in hand to be able to buy hearing aids online.

2. You are not tech-savvy, and you don't think you can manage telecare sessions and do not have access to a local audiologist to fine-tune the hearing aids if you buy them online; hence, you'd better buy them from a local provider.

3. In addition to your hearing loss, you are under ENT supervision for other health reasons, so better to buy hearing aids locally so you receive regular support from a local audiologist.

If I buy hearing aids online, how can I program them?

If you purchase hearing aids from HearingNow, you will receive them programmed and ready to use in Portugal. Our aftercare covers future reprogramming if and when needed, either in our clinic in London or remotely through telecare.

 

Patients with hearing loss need to adjust and reprogram their hearing aids now and then. For that reason, they need aftercare support for their hearing aids. When you buy hearing aids online for adjustment and reprogramming, you have the following two options:

1. Telecare - Most of our premium hearing aids can be adjusted and reprogrammed remotely. You need to have a smartphone; that's all. There are several tutorials on how to connect your smartphone to your hearing aids and manage a telecare session. Please see our Customer Support page for links to all major hearing aid manufacturers and help with how to connect your hearing aids to Bluetooth and your smartphone. When your hearing aids are connected to your smartphone, our audiologist will be able to connect to your hearing aids through your smartphone and will reprogram them remotely.

2. A local audiologist - If the model of hearing aid that you wish to buy does not support remote telecare, or you are not comfortable with remote telecare, then you need to make sure that you consult with a local audiologist to make sure that they are willing to support you with future aftercare and tuning of your hearing aids before you purchase them on HearingNow.

What are the popular models of hearing aids in Portugal?

While there are different levels of support for most premium models of hearing aids in Portugal, Widex is one of the most popular and most established hearing care providers in Portugal.

Before ordering Widex hearing aids through HearingNow, make sure that:

1. You consult with a Widex local clinic in Portugal to ensure they are happy to support you with tuning of your Widex hearing aids although you have not purchased them locally.  As far as we know, most Widex branches do that for a fee.

2. That you are aware that the point of reference for any repair under warranty in future will be our clinic in London, and you will be liable for the shipment cost of the hearing aids to London, UK and return. Please see HearingNow's warranty and aftercare here.

3. Contact us to check if the certain model of hearing aids you have in mind supports remote programming or not.

 

Do Widex hearing aids support remote programming?

At the moment, only Widex Moment and Widex SmartRIC support remote programming. Unfortunately, Widex Allure and Widex Allure Ai do not support remote programming; therefore, it is crucial to understand that you will need to consult with a local Widex shop to make sure they are happy to support you (for a fee) with future fine-tuning of your Widex hearing aids.

 

Am I liable to any import tax in Portugal when I receive my hearing aids from HearingNow?

Yes, you will likely be liable for import tax and customs duty in Portugal when you receive a new pair of hearing aids bought from outside Portugal. We cannot confirm the amount of the customs duty in Portugal as it may change. The best approach is to contact a local DHL agent to find out how much customs duty you might be exposed to when ordering hearing aids from outside Portugal.

Can I replace my hearing aids with another brand or type?

It is doable, but since you might have paid a customs duty when you received the hearing aids in Portugal, our best advice is to try any specific model of hearing aids locally in Portugal before you attempt to buy that model on HearingNow.

Do I have to pay extra for the shipment of my hearing aids to Portugal?
