Sonova announced the Phonak Audeo EON platform today (24 Aug 2026). This upgrades the Phonak Infinio and Phonak Infinio Sphere range of hearing aids, released in late 2024. I haven't received a pair of EON to try myself yet; I just wanted to open the floor for Phonak EON Sphere and share the news so those looking for the best hearing aids in the UK, or planning to upgrade their current ones, know what is coming up.

What are the major benefits to the user of Phonak EON Sphere from Phonak Infinio Sphere?
I've fitted Sphere, I've seen what patients like and dislike about it, and here's what I think EON changes.
The Phonak EON Sphere is 25% smaller and offers 37% better speech understanding, and it is smarter than Infinio Sphere. Same as Infinio, the Phonak EON Sphere will switch to Spheric mode for improved AI-assisted speech understanding when the wearer steps into a noisy environment; however, the process has become smarter in a way that the EON will be smarter in picking the right moment to switch on the Spheric mode and also to know when to switch it off. This simple improvement provides a better sound quality and speech understanding in a noisy environment.

Should I upgrade my hearing aids to Phonak EON Sphere?
Good question. Like many other audiologists, I was a bit sceptical about how receptive the patients would be to Phonak Infinio Sphere given that it was one of the biggest hearing aids with AI at the time. But I was proven wrong, as patients gave a higher priority to speech understanding in a noisy environment versus the size of the hearing aid. Also, I noticed a lot of female patients rejected Phonak Infinio Sphere simply because they had relatively smaller ears and the hearing aid was too big for their ears. That burden is removed now.
In my clinical experience, I would consider EON Sphere particularly interesting for the following 7 groups of patients:
The socialisers - If your work and/or lifestyle often brings you into conversation with friends and/or colleagues in noisy environments, then Phonak EON Sphere would be a strong choice for you for its superior speech-in-noise improvement. Unlike other hearing aids such as Resound or Widex, which need a manual switch to the AI mode, the Phonak EON Sphere does the switching to the Spheric mode for you seamlessly.
Outdoor lovers - if you are retired and love playing golf, or you work in open spaces and are exposed to wind noise, then the superior wind noise management of Phonak EON Sphere could easily lure you.
Work from home and tech enthusiasts - Phonak EON Sphere would be a great choice for those with high expectations from their hearing aids, above and beyond their audiological need. I use hearing aids, and I can endorse why; the Phonak EON Sphere can connect to multiple devices including your laptop, tablet and your Android or iPhone mobile phone without a need for an intermediary gadget. That means when you finish a hands-free phone conversation through your mobile phone, you can open your laptop and have a Zoom meeting right after. Furthermore, compared to other hearing aids that I have tried, the Phonak Classic Bluetooth offer the longest streaming range. It means that you can keep your mobile phone in your pocket or leave it in another room and still receive the streaming clearly with no interruption. And now, with built-in Auracast into Phonak EON Sphere, you have the best of all communication means to use your hearing aids as headphones to enjoy music, streaming, movies, gaming, and more. And last but not least, the new receivers SDS 6.0 introduced by Phonak, combined with a lot of adjustment and tuning through the myPhonak app, allow you to listen to music and stream audio the way you want to hear it. (Note: The Phonak EON Sphere does not have the t-coil legacy, so it cannot connect to the older loop system).
Users with a high frequency hearing loss - Phonak EON Sphere can be fitted with Activent receivers, which, in my opinion, is the best solution with picky patients with high frequency hearing loss. The ActiVent technique is only available in Phonak hearing aids. Please read this article about how to optimally manage your hearing loss if your low-to-mid frequency range is good, but you have a moderate-to-severe hearing loss in the high frequency range.
Users with mild hearing loss - You are around 50 years old and noticed that sometimes you struggle with following the conversation in a noisy environment. You did a hearing test, and your hearing test shows you have mild hearing loss only; now what? NAL Institute has concluded their decade long research on such users by releasing its latest NAL-NL3 prescription formula. I have Phonak Paradise P90 hearing aids, and they seem to be helping me. Should I upgrade to Phonak EON Sphere?
That is a good question. If you had asked me this question 6 months ago, I would say wait, but now you can see the improvement and additional benefits that Phonak EON Sphere has over Paradise, Lumity and even Infinio platforms. Do Phonak EON Sphere come with battery-powered or rechargeable batteries?
The Phonak EON Sphere comes only in a rechargeable model. This is a general industry trend which is driven by the need for higher reliability and durability. The Phonak EON Sphere can be purchased with a desktop or a power-packed portable charger. HearingNow will ship all Phonak EON Sphere models with a premium power-pack charger at no extra cost.
Does Phonak EON come with a CROS model?
I am glad to say that the EON platform has a CROS model. Better news is that given the improved battery life, a Phonak EON CROS can offer 20 hours of battery life on a full charge, which is great news. However, the downside is that the EON CROS is only compatible with EON R and not the EON Sphere. The Phonak EON R is the same size as Phonak EON Sphere but has a single processor and has no Spheric mode for AI processing.
What technology levels is Phonak EON Sphere available in?
The Phonak EON Sphere is available in 3 technology levels: E90, E70 and E50. The price difference between each tech level isn't massive, and in my opinion you would be better off going for the highest model if you can. Here are the overall differences of each tech level:

Is Phonak EON Sphere Auracast ready?
Yes, the Phonak EON Sphere is ready to connect to any device which transmits sound and voice via Auracast (more on Auracast in this article). This can be a TV, announcements at the airport, a sports pub, places of worship, etc. You will be able to find the transmitting Auracast sources via myPhonak and connect to them and hear the streaming at a much better sound quality compared to Bluetooth through your Phonak EON Sphere.
Can Phonak EON Sphere help people who are struggling with hearing speech in noisy environments but their audiogram shows no hearing loss?

I am pleased to say that Phonak released the EON Sphere platform in 3 technology levels, which means the entry-level E50 is the most budget-friendly option for those with a tight budget.
Is Phonak EON Sphere easy to maintain?
The Phonak EON Sphere is compatible with the Phonak EasyGuard domes released in 2026 makes them easy to maintain and relatively much more resilient with problem that earwax usually causes to other hearing aids. The Phonak EasyGuard domes seal the tip of the receiver and make the receiver units virtually immune to the number one problem that every hearing aid wearer faces sooner or later: the blockage of the receiver by earwax. Conclusion
Phonak Infinio Sphere was, in my view, one of the strongest hearing aids available for speech understanding in complex background noise. Phonak EON Sphere appears to push that technology further, while addressing one of the biggest limitations of the original Sphere: its size.
