Hearing aid manufacturers released a number of new RIC technologies in 2025. It seems to me now they have got a chance to focus on power and ultra-power BTE hearing aids in 2026.
If you follow Starkey's technologies, you will be pleased to know that Starkey just released Starkey G Series AI Power and Ultra Power BTE hearing aids. There are a number of interesting features in the G Series BTEs that I will elaborate on in this article.

Starkey G Series Power hearing aids look like Starkey Evolv. Are they the same?
The Starkey G Series power hearing aids use the same casing as the Starkey Evolv. I like the idea of cost-saving, i.e. instead of casting a new design. However, the chipset inside is Genesis S1.
Does the Starkey G series do AI processing?
Yes, Starkey G Series hearing aids use the Genesis S1 chipset for sound processing, which includes AI. Albeit the AI processing is not as heavy as the AI processing you find in Phonak Infinio Sphere or Starkey Omega AI.
What are the technology levels of the Starkey G Series Power BTE?
The Starkey G Series Power BTE hearing aids come in 5 technology levels. As you can see, the highest tech level is loaded with features. Some key features that I should emphasise are (please see the slides below):
Transient noise management - This feature is critical for people with hyperacusis, which means a sensitivity to sudden and loud sounds. If you feel that a sudden loud sound, such as slamming a door or a motobike's noise, can be annoying, then you need a hearing aid which is capable of reducing the sudden noise for you. This feature is only available in tech level 24 in Starkey G Series AI Power BTE hearing aids.
Speech in noise - I found the speech in noise SNR improvement is fairly distributed over the 5 tech levels of Starkey G Series Ai Power BTE hearing aids. Obviously, the best performance for speech in noise is available in the tech level 24 with 12 dB SNR improvement.
Machine noise reduction - If you use power hearing aids for managing your hearing loss and work in a noisy environment, then you might need a hearing aid with good noise reduction. The tech level 24 has the highest 11 dB machine noise reduction.
Wind noise reduction - If you play golf a lot, then you must go with the tech level with the best wind noise reduction. Tech level 24 provides 14 dB wind noise reduction!

What is the difference between Power and Ultra-Power in Starkey G Series hearing aids?
The Starkey G Series power hearing aids come in two options, P and UP. The difference is the receiver inside them, which in one is a P receiver (for Power) and in the other is a UP receiver (for Ultra Power). Please see the output power range of the Starkey G Series NTE hearing aids below.
